The Dementia Society of the Philippines is just one of the invited organizations to join join the said discussion last November 27 and 28, 2023 at the Richmonde Hotel Ortigas, Pasig City.
In a recent conference, the National Center for Mental Health led discussions on the ongoing transformation in mental health services, highlighting the crucial role of digitalization in this endeavor. Attended by a diverse audience consisting of health and mental health professionals, IT experts, and various local and international partners, the event unveiled a series of important topics.
The session began with an exploration of the “Digitalized Philippine Mental Health Information System,” emphasizing its significance as a pivotal step towards transformation. International perspectives on digital mental health were then shared, shedding light on global advancements in this vital field.
A comprehensive overview of the proposed Mental Health Information System (MHIS) architecture was presented, analyzing components such as the Administrative Data System (ADS), Research Portal (RP), Cognitive Neuroscience, Biomedical Informatics, Genomics (CNBIG), and the Patient Data Warehouse (PDW). These components collectively serve as the foundation of an integrated and efficient mental health information infrastructure.
Evaluating the preparedness of mental healthcare workers for the MHIS was a key focus, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system. The conference also delved into the Requirements for E-Care System (Alz-e-Med), specifically designed to support patients with dementia.
Noteworthy projects were highlighted, including the Atipan Telehealth Project, which showcased the innovative use of technology to enhance mental health services. The Negros Occidental Mental Health Information Resource (NOMHIR) was also introduced, illustrating localized efforts to digitize mental health information.
The conference concluded by addressing the relevant issues and challenges in the digitalization of mental health care. This open dialogue allowed participants to collectively strategize ways to overcome obstacles and ensure the seamless integration of digital tools in mental health services. The collaborative nature of the event fostered a sense of unity and cooperation among attendees.
