Dementia Society of the Philippines 18th and 1st Virtual Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Annual Convention

18th Annual and 1st Virtual Convention”] During the convention, various stakeholders were invited who gave comments about the output of DSP which will be used to further hone the DSP Recommendations. An innovative forum was held – the Rapid Fire Session – during which there were short discussions on the following relevant topics: Disaster response and recovery for people with dementia, Recognizing Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia During a Pandemic and Caring in the New Normal. The worldwide impact of the COVID pandemic is apparent. For this reason, the changes brought about by the pandemic in different regions were discussed – particularly, the “Challenges of Geriatric and Dementia Care During Pandemic by the Dementia Society of the Philippines Main and Cebu Chapter and the Australia Filipino Community Services. The Allied Health Professionals of DSP engaged the participants as they talked on the Collaborative Allied Perspective in Dementia Care: Helping the Older Adults Adapt to the New Normal.

A highlight of the DSP convention is the Simeon M. Marasigan Memorial Lecture which was held to honor the Founding President of the Society. Dr. Marasigan’s colleague and good friend, Dr. Christopher Chen delivered a lecture on “The Fight Against Dementia: The Darkest Hour Is Just Before the Dawn”, a fitting tribute to the man who was the prime mover behind the Dementia Society of the Philippines.
