The 20th Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders VIRTUAL Annual Convention
The 20th Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Annual Convention of the Dementia Society of the Philippines was held online on October 7 and 8, 2022 through Zoom. This convention was attended by a diverse group of participants including doctors with various specialties, allied health professionals, students, and lay people. The convention featured local and international experts who discussed a wide range of topics related to dementia, including early detection and management of mild cognitive impairment, disease modification in Alzheimer’s therapeutics, the role of gut microbiome in dementia pathogenesis, and the impact of long COVID on cognition. Other topics covered included the role of cholinesterase inhibitors in Parkinson’s Disease Dementia and Dementia with Lewy Bodies, rehabilitation for dementia care post-pandemic, and the importance of maintaining personhood in dementia. The convention also highlighted the importance of cognitive telerehab for dementia, as well as community participation for persons with dementia. The conference provided valuable insights and information for those who attended, and helped to further the goal of creating a dementia-inclusive society.
